Woodlands Institution Demolition Ceremony set for October 18, 2011

Summary:
Former residents of Woodlands and their supporters will be able to participate in the demolition of the last remaining structure of Woodlands Institution in New Westminster.

The following message is from the BC People First Society:

The BC People First Society is privileged to announce the Demolition of the Woodlands Centre Block on Tuesday October 18th, 2011 at 1:00pm.

This is a public event for former residents and their supporters, interested citizens, and those helping to bring about the end of this part of our history. The Centre Block represents one the last and most imposing physical reminders of the Woodlands Institution, which confined and segregated people with disabilities in BC from 1878 until 1996. Read more about Woodlands here.
