RE-INVENTING DAY SUPPORTS, the provincial forum held on March 27 and 28, 2009 at the Delta Vancouver Airport Hotel, brought together 100 representatives from service provider agencies, CLBC, and government representatives for a "two-day facilitated 'think tank'" on employment, with the objectives of:

o Discussing ways to address the challenges of re‐inventing day supports; and

o Developing a report identifying strategies to help agencies transform practice.

Specifically, the forum provided opportunity for participants to:

o Explore the challenges and barriers that organizations face as they identify ways to develop a greater employment focus.

o Identify current organizational strength.

o Learn from the perspectives of self advocates and family members on employment and employment-related issues.

o Hear from colleagues from Community Living BC (CLBC) and Ministry of Housing and Social Development (MHSD).

o Create employment-first recommendations for change and strategies to transform practice.

This report captures elements of the discussions that occurred throughout the two day forum, strategies and recommendations generated in small group work, and information submitted or presented by participating agencies about their current employment‐related activities and their plans for the future.
