Videos Now Available: Stop Hurting Kids Survey Event

On November 22, Inclusion BC and the Family Support Institute announced the report of their survey on restraint and seclusion in schools, Stop Hurting Kids.

The announcement of the survey's results, available at inclusionbc.org/stophurtingkids/, included a forum and event with noted experts in the field of inclusive education and positive behaviour support.

Speakers at the event included:

  • Dr. Vianne Timmons has been President of the University of Regina since 2008. Dr. Timmons is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in inclusive education and family literacy research, and currently serves as President of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
  • Dr.Pat Mirenda is a Professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology and Special Education at the University of British Columbia, where she has been on faculty since 1996. Her primary areas of interest are autism/developmental disabilities, augmentative and alternative communication, positive behavior support, inclusive education, and literacy development.
  • Jessica Humphrey lives in Victoria with her husband and two children aged 8 and 10. Her daughter has a label of a developmental disability. She believes in authentic, lifelong inclusion for all people and often uses storytelling as a way to share her values and vision for the future.
  • Kathleen O’Hanley is an Integration Support Coordinator in the Special Services Department at the Langley School District. She has been an educator for the past 25 years and has worked in both elementary and secondary school settings as a regular classroom teacher and a special educator.
