2010 National Family Conference to Offer Full Stream on Inclusive Education

Educators across B.C. and Canada are invited to take advantage of an entire day dedicated to inclusive education at our 2010 National Family Conference in Whistler on October 22-24, 2010.

As organizations that are working to enhance the lives of children and youth with special needs and adults with developmental disabilities, your conference hosts - the BC Association for Community Living, Family Focus Society and the Canadian Association for Community Living - know that inclusive communities begin at school, where children learn to play and learn alongside their peers.

The recently signed and ratified UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilties recognizes the importance of inclusive education in article 24; a persons right to an inclusive education is now legally enshrined. However, despite this important advancement, students with disabilties across Canada are not being fully included in their classrooms. The timeliness of this issue has prompted us to dedicate an entire conference stream to educators on Friday, October 22, 2010 - a provincial professional development day for teachers.
