Sign the declaration to show your support for the vision of our Ready, Willing and Able Campaign: people with developmental disabilities are ready, willing and able to work!

I. Given that there are over 42,000 British Columbians who have a developmental disability; and

II. Given that over 500 young people with a developmental disability will, later this year, be transitioning from High School to the workplace; and

III. Given that the employment rate in Canada for people with a developmental disability is just 25.5%; and

IV. Given that barriers to employment continue to exist for people with a developmental disability; and

VI. Given that research has confirmed—for a multitude of reasons— that employing people with developmental disabilities improves a company’s bottom line; and

VII. Given that we know a meaningful job helps us establish greater financial independence; feelings of self-worth; and new friendships; and

VIII. Given that work and having a job is the best path out of poverty; and

IX. Given that employment affects how society views us; and

X. Given that we need to act, now, on this knowledge: 

Be it, therefore, resolved that

We support the vision and calls for change, as stated in this important campaign, “Ready, Willing & Able”.
